Blogs We REally Like - Inhabitat

When describing their mission, Inhabitat says that Green design is good design and Good design is green design – and Inhabitat is both green and good in design and in the way they share their mission with all of us. They have eight major sections that run the gamut from Energy to Art, but what drew me to them (of course!) were their Architecture and their Interiors sections. I loved their Design for a Dollar post, their Top 10 Prefabs and their funky feature on a house called The Nautilus. Truly, there is something here for everyone – and oh, yeah, I like a blog with a sense of humor!

Blogs We REally Like - Trendir

If Trendir just covered home decorating, it would hit it right out of the park...but that's not the sum total of what they post. Sure, their House Design section leaves me feeling that I've gotten a great dose of gorgeous modern design and their Ultra Modern section makes me say, "Wow," every time, but really Trendir is an overall knock-your-socks-off site. I like Trendir range of topics (everything you can imagine for your modern home is covered,) sumptuous photographs on every page and pithy posts will inform and inspire you. And just to prove my point, check out today's entry on Mini Kitchens – it covers all your kitchen bases and leaves you feeling like you've won the style (and practicality) championships.

Blogs We REally Like - Kathy's Remodeling Blog

I used to read Kathy Price-Robinson's blog, Pardon Our Dust, on the Los Angeles Times website. Now she's branched off on her own and created Kathy's Remodeling Blog (just as great, but with a new address.) She's got a great sense of humor (such as the stinky room contest) and some very practical advice, but what I cannot get enough of is all that Before and After stuff. But don't take my suggestions, go check out the blog yourself. You'll find a something to inspire and educate you – I have!

Blogs We REally Like - Remodelista

First off, I love the name of this week's Blog We REally Like, Remodelista. Then, I love everything else about it. I cannot even begin to choose my favorite section. Oh, all right, I will. My favorite section is 10 Easy Pieces followed by Architect Visit (or maybe vice versa.) Ok, what I really want to say is that every section is amazing. Every post is inspiring and every day gives you something new to set your sights on. Stylish and lovely, Remodelista, you're one gorgeous blog.

Blogs We REally Like - Tiny House Blog

Dream big! Think tiny! That just may be my new slogan. You see, I didn't always dream of a small house. In fact, quite the opposite, give me rooms, give me space, give me square-footage vistas! Maybe the time has come to change. Small is big. Tiny is huge. And the ecological and economic benefits are enormous -- low to no-mortgage, time to do what you love (not cleaning!) and that rarest of all features, a way to make the most of your life – sign me up! So check out the Tiny House Blog for ideas, inspiration and, who knows, maybe your future home. I love the V2 Prefab Microhome. And you?

Blogs We REally Like - Design*Sponge

When it comes to design and decorating, I need all the help I can get. I am just not one of those "envisioners" who can see the potential – and/or the "quick fix" that will turn a room from so-so to spectacular. I wish I did have that talent, but truth be told, I know I can fake it. How? Well, by visiting Design*Sponge on a daily basis. From adding a touch of beauty to a room (check out Weeders Digest) to must-be-seen-to-be-believed lighting choices to the I-just-can't-get-enough of those before & afters, Design*Sponge has got all that and much, much more. So now even the design challenged (yes, that would be me) can envision (aka copy those ideas) and live in style.

Blogs We REally Like - The Real Estalker

If you're as obsessed with real estate as I am, then you should let Your Mama tell you more about it. And by mama, I do not mean me. I mean the shoot-from-the-hip Mama of The Real Estalker. I love all kinds of real estate, but I know a lot of you could give a hoot about what is going on in Tacoma, WA. I know many of you just want to know about multi-million dollar homes especially those of celebrities ranging from Madonna to Mariah Carey. (Ok, that wasn't a big stretch, but their real estate is, so go with it.) That's why you should take a trip to the The Real Estalker. You'll get floor plans, photos and the inside scoop on the behind-the-scenes drama so soon you'll be saying, Your Mama knows just what her celebrity-real-estate-loving children need.

Blogs We REally Like - Luxist

If you like all things luxurious, then you will love Luxist. Dedicated to the crème de la crème, Luxist takes you on a daily journey to all the best of everything. Of course, I have a little bit of a crush on their celebrity estates, but who wouldn't? Tell me more about John Legend's apartment. Or Tina Fey's Upper West Side deal. And no, they don't only talk about New York, they've got the scoop on Nicolas Cage's New Orleans' home and Cary Grant's iconic Palm Springs estate too. I swear you'll fall in love with all that glamour and pretty soon you'll think they're as swell as I do.

Blogs We REally Like - Decor8

After we launched Bright and Spacious I asked all my colleagues for help. Everyone has a real estate story, everyone has a tip or a question or a helpful how-to. But only one person had a list of favorite blogs. That person is Robin of Bringing the Outdoors In fame. Robin is an incredibly stylish person and it is absolutely no surprise to me that her all-time favorite design blog is Decor8. Every post is chock full of innovative design ideas for your home (as well as you and your family.) Blogger Holly Becker is an interior design consultant out to inspire you. Inspire you she does – as well tell you about the most beautiful things you can find. Amazing Australian design blog? Check. How about sewing green? Ditto. And my budget conscious favorite – How much for this room? Thanks Robin for leading us to inspiration!

Blogs We REally Like - Crib Notes

If you are interested in the major players and the big picture in the real estate world then you probably already know about Crib Notes. Written by the Plainer Dealer's Michelle Jarboe, Crib Notes focuses on all the important issues going on in real estate today. The blog talks about the financial side of things, yet is completely readable. The topics of the posts span the entire U.S, but do have a slight leaning for the goings on in the Ohio area. I found their assessment of the 2009 commercial real estate market quite interesting and the rebuttal comment (A Businessman's Letter to the Real Estate Roundtable) even more so.

Blogs We REally Like - Etsy

I think we can all agree that time is of the essence since our modern lives are so jammed packed with activities and to-dos and the siren call of the internet. The lure of taking the time to actually make something by hand is really so appealing, but when? And if you're like me with no arts-and-crafts talent at all, the odds are it wouldn't look very good once it was hand made. This is where Etsy comes in – tons of talented people making beautiful things by hand just for you. Ok, maybe strictly speaking Etsy isn't a blog, but I defy you not to check in and read about their featured sellers. For instance, today's artist is jillrosenwald and her ceramic wares. All of her pieces are charming and practical, but I couldn't resist her dip bowls. See for yourself!

Blogs We REally Like - Desire to Inspire

The week is winding down and I can hear the call of home and comfort and hmmm, what will I have for dinner. I'm not feeling like deep thoughts, or wanting to explain anything, or taxing you with something else to do. All I am going to do is give you Desire to Inspire to look at. It's sumptuous, seductive, and simply beautiful. Read the posts, if you like. If not, just devour the images -- the gorgeous, gorgeous images. I myself did a little real estate stalking and then was amazed by the dream kitchen. It's a good way to wrap up the work week and get started on all those weekend design dreams.

Blogs We Really Like - Dwell Blogs

If you haven't already guessed, my tastes run toward the modern. It's not that I don't like other styles, but my eyes always catches on something that is clean-lined and minimal and (just to underline a point) bright and spacious. That's why I love the Dwell Blogs or Blog. I haven't quite figured out what's what there since they recently relaunched (or "renovated") the site. They're still in beta mode, so not everything is free of those beta-bugs, but still, I cannot get enough. There's the Pinon House and writer-gardener Debra Prinzing personal outdoor dwelling and Andrea Cochran's landscapes -- and I was completely charmed by the AIA SF Design Awards 2009.

Have you checked it out? Which post was your favorite?

Blogs We REally Like - Real Estate Q & A

Where do you go to get your questions answered? I have a cousin who nine times out of ten will have the answer for most of my questions (thanks, cousin Marc!) Since beginning this blog, I have also been lucky to have access to experts and real estate professionals. I get to ask them questions and soon enough, I get the answers. I love the Q & A format. I think that's why I love the The New York Times Real Estate Q & A blog (Expert Advice for Owners and Renters.) It's just the place to find direct, informative and expert answers for all those nagging real estate questions. I often realize, yeah, I want to know the answer to that question too. Just like this week's An All-Cash Buyer Seeks Lower Co-op Charges, although my question would be, where does one get all that cash to plunk down on a New York City apartment?

Do you have a favorite real estate, design or architecture blog? If so, let us know!
